Whole30 Diet: Beginner’s Journey // DAY 1

For the past year, and most recently months, I have been feeling less energized, feeling rundown, and overall just feeling like I’m lacking some energy. I mean, I feel good enough to get up and go, work out from time to time (very infrequently), and very unlike my old bikram yogi self who practiced six days a week. (Ahhh, where is that Glor?)… anyway, I know there is a lot of #selfcare talk happening on social and of course, I understand why that is so much more important today than ever before. Our lifestyle is not as active as it once was and if you’re a mama like myself running a small business and blog (ah, blog, we’ll come back to that later; maybe a different post), it’s not so easy to hit the gym or be active or go back to “bikram yogi” person we used to be. And listen, I know age plays a huge role in the change in our activity level, but I seriously wish someone had literally drilled it into my head (okay maybe not literally) that if I gave up on anything to never give up on body/self (in the physically active sense); I THRIVE in other areas of my life, but sadly, like most working adults I have definitely slowed down in the physical activity.

So back to where I started…I said all of that to say that I have decided, wholeheartedly to begin a new way of life; one I think will be a catalyst in my lifestyle change journey towards healthy—in nutrition and physicality—lifestyle overall AND long term. That’s hugely important right? After researching on what / how to get back on track to living a healthy, more active lifestyle that will help me feel better, I have decided to embrace the Whole30 lifestyle (@whole30). I have read countless blog posts, watched an unhealthy-healthy amount of YouTube videos and literally stalked Bailey of Paleo Baily blog, (@paleobailey) (lol, sorry, but trying to learn from the best).

What is the Whole30?

Founded by Melissa Hartwig (and Dallas Hartwig) in April 2009, the Whole30® is designed to change your life in 30 days. Think of it as a short-term nutrition reset, designed to help you put an end to unhealthy cravings and habits, restore a healthy metabolism, heal your digestive tract, and balance your immune system.

Certain food groups (like sugar, grains, dairy and legumes) could be having a negative impact on your health and fitness without you even realizing it. Are your energy levels inconsistent or non-existent? Do you have aches and pains that can’t be explained by over-use or injury? Are you having a hard time losing weight no matter how hard you try? Do you have some sort of condition (like skin issues, digestive ailments, seasonal allergies or fertility issues) that medication hasn’t helped? These symptoms may be directly related to the foods you eat—even the “healthy” stuff.


The Whole30 program rules.

TODAY. Today is my DAY 1 and as I write this I’m having green tea (my usual morning cup). I’m a healthy foodie, like not to say I don’t occasionally over indulge (I mean, did you see my Insta Story last weekend when i ordered all that Dim Sum? grinnnnnnnnnng), lol, that’s neither here nor there, but I was trying to draw some type of connection…. This is already WAY longer than I wanted to share, but… (because I’m on a blog hiatus for good reason: doing a huge rebrand / blog migration project I’ve been tolling around with for a week now, SIGH, you can’t imagine my to-do list).

I say all of the above to say that I am in some way excited to start my #whole30 journey, and I need you all; I cannot do it alone.
