Our fall frenzy continued this weekend with a trip to our favorite area pumpkin patch, Cox Farms (15621 Braddock Rd, Centreville, VA 20120 | Phone:(703) 830-4121). Cox Farms is one of the most popular fall festival attractions in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area where you can pick your own pumpkins. We have been going there for years, and it’s one of the best family fun autumn activities in the area.
The weather was not the best on Saturday when we visited. The temperatures were a lot colder than previous weekends and the wind made it impossible to enjoy the farm activities, but we made the best of it. We only spent a couple of hours at the farm mostly with Little A going on the Robe Swing (her favorite), and sliding down between the haystacks and goat pens. We grabbed a couple of hot dogs and a bag of Kettle corn and some water. The sun started to set so we made our way up to the farm stand to pick our pumpkins. With every wristband, visitors can choose a free small pumpkin of their choice.
Last year we did very little with pumpkin decorating mostly because we were in the process of moving into our home, and were between the apartment and new house. We had settled for trick or treating in the new neighborhood. This year; however, I have some ideas for our pumpkin carving / decorating so before we left, I found a few pumpkins that would be ideal for some of the no-carve do-it-yourself pumpkin I have in mind. I was drawn to the grey and white varieties of pumpkins this year, which came in several sizes, shapes, and hybrid colors. I also loved some of the quirky looking gourds, which I thought would be perfect for the breezeway. In the end, I picked up a few of each, including the tradition carving orange pumpkins where the seeds are edible as well.
We are working on different Halloween pumpkin ideas in preparation for Halloween and I’m so excited to share with you what we have planned for our pumpkins. I’m especially excited to share some of my outdoor / indoor décor ideas with pumpkins. #staytuned!
